 Yesterday would have been my 36th anniversary, had I been so stupid as to have stayed with husband #1 and he hadn't beaten me to death long long before...
   Thank you, God, for giving me the guts to get out, and the sense to recognize a GOOD man later when he came along. I pray the same for every woman in the same situation...
  This is an icon of the Blessed Matushka Olga Micheal of Alaska.  She was a priest's wife, a midwife, and a tireless worker for abused women...

Feb. 2nd, 2010 @ 12:02 am Aahhhhh

   Had our House Blessing tonight - don't know why (well, other than the OCD) I get so stressed over it every year, as if Father J never saw a dust bunny before...  anyway, except for the Big Stoopid Dog barking hysterically when sprinkled with holy water, a nice Blessing, a good supper, and a pleasant evening all together!  (Boy, am I glad it's over til next year!)

   Tomorrow is my "baby's" 32nd birthday.  Guess it's kind of mine too, if you count being "rebooted"...  wonder if I could get away with putting "1978" as my birthyear on all my ID?

    And now off to a bubble bath with a good book, and tomorrow I'm totally ignoring dust-bunnies entirely.

Current Mood: nostalgic

  SHould be in bed.  I'm tired, I'm cold, and I can't feel my fingers.  But I'm all nostalgic because I found this photo.

         Aren't we pretty?  Aren't we YOUNG?  (And isn't that one seriously shiny Gunny Sax wedding dress?)   For goodness sake, that little blond head at Himself's elbow is about to be 31, and is now 6'4"....
    We're not so different 28 years later.  He's still thin, and I still have hair... :-)
     And now I really should go to bed - got a new design percolating in my poor tired brain, and want to play with my treadle machine tomorrow (Himself fixed it, yay!) and need to reschedule my house blessing because I don't think the turkey is going to thaw in time for dinner Tuesday night....

Jan. 22nd, 2010 @ 02:12 pm Argh

   Just when I was getting into the swing of sewing my summer wardrobe, I have done broke my 'lectrical sewin' 'chine - argh argh argh!  It got a thread jam, and now the needle and bobbin threads don't want to sync.   Alas, a trip to the Singer Doctor has to wait until payday.  Gee whiz, it's only 25 years old, it should have a long long life yet!!
   The treadle has a hitch in its getalong too - I'm hoping it's one Himself can iron out with some oiling, because I really need to sew when I'm in the MOOD to sew!  Sigh....

  Took a little shopping trip through new sewing machines on line, just in case - mercy on us, Old Faithful really REALLY needs to get fixed!

  To add to the "grouchy", there's an ice storm predicted for overnight, so it's probably best for Himself (who has to work tomorrow) stay in town.
    On the "happy" side, he went to the library for me yesterday, and I have a shiny fresh stack of new books to entertain myself -   mmmm, boooooooooooooksssssss....

PS - learned at lunch yesterday that Tink the kitteh looooves vegetarian refried beans - left my lunch chalupa (bean and a sprinkle of cheese) unattended for a minute, came back to find the beans licked off one edge and the culprit still at it....    :-)

Woot! Himself got word today that he is now a lieutenant on the fire dept - yay, babe! And Son John is getting the promotion to training officer!!!! Yay, you go, boys!!!!

Hmmm. I think I need to promote myself. I think I should now be Domestic Goddess Extraordinaire, instead of just Chief Cook and Bottle Washer. :-)

Current Mood: disgusted
I just saw a clip of Pat Robertson blaming the people of Haiti for the earthquake. I am so angry I can't form coherent thought. I am so disgusted that I want to vomit. I am ashamed for whoever was there to hear this venom, and said nothing to dispute it.

in case that doesn't work -

God send aid and comfort to the suffering in Haiti. God give rest to those that have perished. God give strength and resolve to those heading there now to help. Lord have mercy. Lord have mercy. Lord have mercy.

And God forgive Pat Robertson and all his ilk of "Christian".

Today is the Feast of the Nativity for Old Calendar folks - Happy Feast Day!

And for a present I got shiny new pics of the grandbaby boys - ain't they pretty? :-)

And finally, if you're going to An Tir's 12th Night this weekend, you can (US mail willing!)
find Stitchin' Vixen/Practical Blackwork patterns, available through Countess Berengaria and her lovely armor-making hubby in the merchanting area...
Now's a great time to start that blackwork shirt or shift or partlet for those spring events.... ;-)

Whatever else one may say or think about the Nigerian man who attempted to blow up a plane on Christmas day, there is this bit of cosmic justice -

He will be known, forever, as The Underpants Bomber.

Blessed Nativity, Merry CHristmas, Happy Holidays to all!

This night, peace was bestowed upon the whole world;
     so let no one threaten.
     This is the night of the Most Gentle One;
      let no one be cruel.
      This is the night of the Most Humble One;
     let no one be proud.
     Now is the day of joy;
      let us not seek revenge.
      Now is the day of goodwill;
     let us not be mean.
     In this day of peace let us not be conquered by anger.
     Today the Beautiful One impoverished Himself for our sake;
     so you rich ones, invite the poor to your table.
     Today we received a gift for which we did not ask;
     so let us give alms to those who implore us and beg.
     This present day's fast opens the heavenly door to our prayers.
      Let us open our door to those who ask our forgiveness.
     Now the Divine Being took upon Himself the seal of humanity,
In order for humanity to be decorated by the seal of Divinity.

Dec. 18th, 2009 @ 11:49 pm Thank you, St Nicolas
for the shiny red car. We can't really afford it, we'll be eating beans and rice for the next month because of the downpayment, but Himself should be able to go to work Monday, thanks to the one place in town that still carries its own paper...
We are now the relieved owners of a 1999 (wow, one more car and we should make it into THIS century!) bright red Pontiac Grand Prix....

whew.

Okay. The car is dead dead dead. Cracked block.

Panic-o-rama. No money. Tomorrow, going begging to see who's foolish enough to sell us a new old car.

"If it weren't fer BAAAAAAAAAAD luck we'd have no luck at all...."

On the other hand, we ain't dead and the sun shined today.

Dec. 13th, 2009 @ 12:43 am One Sunny Day
We had one sunny day, and tonight another arctic front comes in... but on the good side, got all the leaky windows "plasticked", and it looks like the broken car problem may be as simple as the new water pump gasket failed - let's hope so! (though the rental PT Cruiser is really cute, sigh....)
And a photo, becuase the colors are so pretty - Buster Brown, on my favorite shawl, in HIS favorite sunspot...

Dec. 12th, 2009 @ 12:18 am Whew!
AIn't dead, it's just been very very VERY cold here - a couple of nights of almost 20 below, single digit daytime "highs". Way too cold to hang out in this room....
So I'm way behind, and reading to catch up!

Oh, yeah, and the other thing I've been busy with - if you happen to go to Calontir's "Kris Kinder" event in KC this weekend, stop by "Scrap Ends" and check out the Practical Blackwork and Stitchin' Vixen blackwork designs - our one and only car just sploded today, we need the money! :-)

And Happy Chanukah to all who celebrate!

Current Location: hiding from the Taliban
Current Mood: cranky
First we don't need mammograms, and now we don't need Pap tests.
Is it just me, or is most of this stuff aimed at women? Is Washington now being run by the Taliban? Next, schooling will be "unnecessary" for females...

And an aside, just heard a news report of an armed, mentally unstable man barricading himself in a house in a standoff with police.
Did we really need to say "unstable" here? Do stable people often do this? Sigh......
